Bookkeeping example (short form)

Bookkeeper — 4 years: Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for 15 small-business clients in QuickBooks: accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, monthly close within 5 business days, year-end packages for CPAs. Executive example (short form)

Operations Executive — 12 years: P&L responsibility for a $12M business unit; lead 60 staff across 4 sites; deliver 18% margin improvement through process redesign; oversee budgets, vendor contracts and compliance. Board reporting and strategic planning experience. Keep executive resumes to two pages, achievement-led, with no early-career detail.

What makes these work

  • Revenue and scale in the first lines: $ figures, team sizes, territories.
  • Trends, not snapshots: "grew from X to Y" beats "responsible for revenue".
  • Tools named: Salesforce, QuickBooks, Xero — the filters recruiters use.

What if your numbers are confidential?

Many employers treat revenue as confidential, and hiring managers know it. Use ranges ("$2M+ territory"), percentages ("grew region 81% over four years") or quota attainment ("exceeded quota 14 of 16 quarters") instead of exact figures. What you must not do is invent numbers: a reference check or a pipeline question in the interview will expose them, and a sales leader caught inflating numbers rarely gets a second conversation.

From rep to manager: framing the step up

Individual-contributor resumes sell personal results; manager resumes sell team results. When moving up, reframe wins as team outcomes: "coached two reps from under quota to President\'s Club" beats "won President\'s Club myself" for a manager posting. Keep one personal number (your own best year) so readers know you can still sell — then let the team numbers dominate.

Frequently asked questions

Should sales resumes include exact revenue figures?

Yes, in ranges if your employer treats them as confidential — "$2M+ territory" is fine; inventing figures is not.

How long should an executive resume be?

Two pages. Cut early career to one line each and let recent leadership results dominate.

Do bookkeepers need certifications on the resume?

QuickBooks ProAdvisor or similar credentials help and should be listed near the top when held.

How do I show leadership without a manager title?

Name the leadership work itself: onboarding new reps, running the weekly pipeline review, owning a product launch in your territory, or mentoring a junior rep to quota. "Acting team lead during manager leave (3 months)" is a real leadership line even without the title.

Should I list every product I have sold?

No — list categories and the CRM you ran them in ("B2B SaaS, Salesforce"). Hiring managers filter on industry and tools, not on a catalogue of product names.
