How to Edit Photos on iPhone: Live Photos, Blurry Fixes & Backgrounds
The iPhone's built-in editor quietly handles most photo fixes — including the ones people install apps for. Here is the complete tour, plus the free fixes for the problems the built-in editor cannot solve.
Remove a photo's background with AI that runs 100% in your browser — no uploads, ever.
Editing Live Photos
Open a Live Photo, tap Edit, and use the Live Photo icon at the bottom to pick a different key frame — the still that represents the photo. You can also apply effects: swipe up on the photo and choose Loop, Bounce, or Long Exposure (the last one turns moving water and light trails silky). To turn a Live Photo into a still, tap the Live button and choose Off. All of this works without any app.
Fixing blurry photos for free
Honest truth first: no tool truly "unblurs" a badly blurred photo — sharpening enhances edges, it does not recover lost detail. What helps: the built-in editor's Sharpness slider (moderate amounts only), and for a real improvement, our AI Image Upscaler (2x detail reconstruction) and AI Photo Enhancer, which run in your browser. For slightly soft photos, a small sharpness boost plus contrast often looks better than aggressive "AI deblur" filters.
Changing a photo background
On iPhone, long-press a subject in Photos to lift it off the background (iOS 16+), then copy or share it onto another image. For a clean, full-resolution result, our Background Remover cuts the subject out in the browser with a transparent, white, black or custom background — no app, no upload.
Saving and sharing correctly
Photos saves edits non-destructively: you can always revert to the original. When sharing, use "Save to Files" or AirDrop for full quality; messaging apps compress aggressively. For print layouts, our Photo Collage Maker builds printable collages (including A4 layouts) in the browser.
Frequently asked questions
How do I edit a Live Photo's key frame?
Open the photo → Edit → tap the Live Photo icon → scrub the filmstrip → "Make Key Photo".
Can I really fix a blurry iPhone photo?
Slightly soft, yes — sharpening and AI upscaling help visibly. Heavily blurred or motion-blurred, no — no honest tool recovers that detail.
Does editing a photo destroy the original?
No — iPhone edits are non-destructive. Tap Edit → Revert to return to the original at any time.
