Sitemap etiquette
Include only pages you actually want indexed — canonical, returning 200, not blocked by robots.txt. Listing a redirected or noindexed URL sends Google mixed signals it will resolve by ignoring your sitemap. Limits: 50,000 URLs or 50 MB per file (use a sitemap index beyond that). Priority and changefreq are mostly ignored by Google these days — honest lastmod dates are the field that still earns attention. And a sitemap is a hint, not a command: it gets pages discovered; content and links get them ranked.

Where do I put the file?
At your site root (yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml), then submit it in Google Search Console and add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt.
