A JWT is three Base64url parts joined by dots: header (algorithm + type), payload (claims like sub, exp, iat) and signature. Anyone can decode the first two parts — the secrecy is in the signature, which proves the token was issued by someone holding the key and was not altered. Common claims: exp expiry, iat issued-at, sub subject (usually the user id), iss issuer, aud audience.
No — decoding only reads it. Verification needs the issuer's key and happens on your server. This tool shows content and expiry only.
